I hired Jia Junaid to prepare a demand letter related to a family matter and paid a $1,000 CAD retainer. She initially gave me a timeline of around two weeks but completely failed to meet it. For over four months, she ignored my emails and calls and provided no updates or services whatsoever. I live outside Canada, and she seemed to take advantage of that by being unresponsive and unaccountable. In the end, I received absolutely nothing for the $1,000 I paid. I strongly advise others to be cautious before hiring her. I have since filed a complaint with the Law Society of Ontario regarding this matter. Update: The LSO investigated the matter and issued regulatory guidance to the lawyer. Following this, the lawyer proposed refunding my CAD 1,000 retainer only if I signed a six-page settlement agreement containing broad ongoing obligations, including removal of my Google review and restrictions on future public commentary. I declined those terms, as I was seeking a straightforward refund and closure. As a result, the retainer has not been refunded. I am sharing this update to reflect the current status of the matter.
