Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about immigration costs to Canada.
How much does it cost to immigrate to Canada through Express Entry?
Express Entry costs approximately $2,500–$4,000 CAD per adult for a single applicant, including government fees ($1,365 application + $515 PR fee), biometrics ($85), language testing (~$320), credential assessment ($200–$300), and medical exam ($200–$450). Hiring a consultant adds $2,000–$8,000.
Do I need to show settlement funds?
Yes, if applying under the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) or Federal Skilled Trades (FST) program. A single applicant needs approximately $14,690 CAD. Canadian Experience Class (CEC) applicants are exempt. PNP streams may have different requirements.
Are government fees refundable if refused?
Processing fees are generally non-refundable. The Right of Permanent Residence fee ($515) is refunded if PR is not approved. Third-party costs like medical exams and language tests are never refundable.
Do these costs include tuition for study permits?
No. The GIC amount ($20,635) covers living expenses only. Tuition varies widely by institution and program — typically $20,000–$50,000 CAD per year for international students.
How often do immigration fees change?
IRCC updates fees periodically, usually annually. Settlement fund requirements are updated every year based on Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) figures. We recommend verifying current fees on the official IRCC website before applying.
